52 Knits // farewell socks

February 5, 2012

Pattern: my own
Yarn Used: one skein Superba ChinΓ©e by Rico Design (75% new wool, 25% polyamide)
Needles: 2.5mm DPNs
Modifications: shorter calf
Note: This is the sock pattern I use for regular socks. There’s nothing fancy about these but they fit my feet perfectly πŸ™‚
I knitted a rather short calf this time (out of laziness…) and used the kitchener stitch to graft the toe (what the hell is wrong with me?! Didn’t realize it was a bad idea until I was halfway done with the second sock).
I call these the ‘farewell socks’ because I started knitting these in August 2011(!!!) on the way to the airport when I left for Vancouver. Funny enough, I didn’t pick these up until my flight home for winter break. But I figured I should just get over it and finish these. So I guess these count as finnish an UFO?! πŸ™‚
Also, I realized that taking pictures of socks is boring. And awkward.
Note to self: before photographing socks, vacuum you room! and shave your legs.

FIFTYTWOOOOThis is project #4 of 52.

As part of my 2012 goals, I want to finish 52 knitted items this year. You can see all the items I knitted so far on my blog or on ravelry.

Hey, you can't count them as number four, you started them last year! Let's say project number 3.5? πŸ˜€ Just kidding… Finishing wips is always a good idea.
What's the problem with the kitchener stitch? I use it for every single sock (except the ones I knit from the toe up…) and love it.

haha yeah you're right I kind of cheated with these but at least they're finally done πŸ˜‰
The kitchener stitch doesn't like me… it looks kind of messy?! In the youtube videos it always looks perfectly – you can't even tell that it was grafted. Guess I didn't inherit the kitchener stitch gene?

i always knit socks using the boomerang heel, i get the best results with them. i'm currently knitting some socks that have taken me ages already, can't wait to finish them finally!

oh, socks. i HATE knitting socks – but that's probably because the only pair i ever made i made for my husband and his HUGE feet! maybe if i made a pair for my size 6 feet, i'd like it more!

(thanks for the comment on my blog – i'm excited to follow this project!)
