52 knits // yarn bombing!

October 12, 2012

On our way to the beach in Denmark, we passed a street called “Strikkerensvey”. Since “stricken” means knitting in German, it sounded like “knitting street” to us and we thought it would be fun to add a little something to the street sign. My mom and I got a bag full of beautiful yarn at a thrift store and quickly knitted/crocheted this swatch. Equipped with some yarn, scissors and a tapestry needle, we added the swatch to the street sign. When we passed the street sign the following day, it was still there. I’m curious whether it’ll still be there in a couple months… or maybe even next year?

It was a quick and fun project and I’m daydreaming about adding some color to the street lamp in front of the building I live in…

FIFTYTWOOOOThis is project #18 of 52

That's awesome! (and thanks for teaching me how to say "to knit" in German – I'm thinking crafty words will be some of the last we'll learn in my classes :/)

I love that it was a mother-daughter graffiti project, that's unique! Yarn bombing ALWAYS brightens my day, so I'm sure you've brightened many.
